The Wisconsin Department of Revenue is headed by the Secretary
of Revenue appointed by the Governor, subject to confirmation
of the State Senate. The Secretary is responsible for administering
state and local taxes in a fair, efficient and equitable manner
while advocating sound tax and fiscal polices and providing
property tax relief.

Wisconsin Department of Commerce
The Wisconsin Department of Commerce was established in 1996
through the consolidation of various independent state organizations.
It provides development assistance in areas such as marketing,
business and community finance, exporting, small business
advocacy, and manufacturing assessments. The department also
issues professional credentials for the construction trades
and administers safety and building codes. Commerce also
regulates petroleum products and tank systems and administers
the Petroleum Environmental Clean-up Fund.

the DOC helps Wisconsin businesses prosper in a marketplace
that is subject to constant change by utilizing a combination
of technical and financial assistance programs that have been
designed to assist businesses at all points of the continuum
including: business planning, site selection, initial capitalization,
permitting, employee training, research and development, and
business expansion.
In addition, the Department of Commerce manages Special
Tax Credit Programs to help businesses.

Forward Wisconsin
Forward Wisconsin is a unique public-private state marketing
and business recruitment organization. Its job is marketing
outside Wisconsin to attract new businesses, jobs and increased
economic activity to the state. Forward Wisconsin was created
in 1984 and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. It
has an annual budget of approximately $1 million and private
sector contributors provide more than half of that funding,
with the balance coming from the state of Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Policy Research Institute
The Wisconsin Policy Research Institute Inc., established
in 1987, is a non-partisan, not-for-profit Institute working
to engage and energize Wisconsinites and others in discussions
and timely action on key public policy issues critical to the
State’s future, its growth and prosperity. The Institute’s research
and public education activities are directed to identify and
promote public policies in Wisconsin which are fair, accountable

Wisconsin Small Business Development Center
The mission of the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center
is to champion business creation and growth through entrepreneurial
education; develop the regional capacity to support entrepreneurs;
and consistently deliver higher levels of quantifiable economic
impact than taxpayer investment required. Wisconsin’s SBDC
system consists of 12 service centers and four specialty
centers, all located on four-year University of Wisconsin
campuses. The significant research and educational resources
offered through the university system provides the SBDCs
with an array of expertise from both faculty and students.

Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance
The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance seeks to explain how state
and local government work, so voters and taxpayers, students
and teachers can be more active and informed citizens. By
providing reliable data to members of the legislature, county
boards, school boards, city councils and other government
bodies, WISTAX helps them to arrive at intelligent decisions.
